Venue OPEN HOUSE

Open House

Planning your wedding can be one of the most exciting experiences of your life. The biggest decision that sets the tone for your big day is choosing the perfect venue.

An open house is a perfect opportunity for the couple to envision their big day and determine if the space aligns with their vision.  While researching venues in  http://www.buffalony.comand browsing photos is helpful, nothing beats the experience of visiting the space in person.   The Admiral Roomhttp://www.admiralroom.com has been doing our own Wedding Open House/ Wedding Showcase since we opened in 2018.

These events are designed with one purpose in mind: to help you, envision your special day in the space.  Wedding venue open houses give you a unique opportunity to gather details, interact with the venue staff, and even meet potential wedding vendors. To make these events as productive (and fun!) as possible, here’s why they matter and how to ensure you’re successful.

What will you get from attending an Open Houses

  1. See the venue and not just in photos. Some of our couples have not had the opportunity to visit the Admiral room in the evening with the sun setting through the beautiful large windows. Then once it dark out enjoy the surrounding up-lights with our colorful lighting system.
  2. They allow you to evaluate the layout and see the flexibility to accommodate your event
  3. You’ll get a much better idea of whether the space matches your vibe!
  4. Visualize your custom wedding and see all the upgrades available:
Many open houses are staged to reflect what a wedding there could look like—a fully set tablescape, decorated ceremony spaces, decorative backdrops, lighting, and music. This gives you a real sense of how the venue might look and feel during your big day.
  5. Meet the staff/ venue team in person:
A venue’s staff plays a huge role in ensuring your wedding goes smoothly. Meeting them in person at an open house gives you a chance to see how friendly, professional, and knowledgeable they are. Building a good relationship with the venue team early on is important to keep your stress down.
  6. Meet Vendors and see their work-  Open houses usually include other wedding vendors like our favorite florists,  photographers, DJ’s videographers makeup and hair companies, hotels,  parking, cake/ dessert companies.  This is a great opportunity to speak with vendors that the venue highly recommends and see samples of their work.  Weddings by Gianna helped coordinate a photo shoot on the same day while all the vendors were in attendance.http://www.weddingsbygianna.com

Our Open House takes place in February as the “engagement season” is in full swing.  It is advantageous to come as some vendors offer a booking incentive.   Some vendors offer a discount or offer a special.

Bring you fiancée, parents or maid of honor and come for a fun and informative night out.   Take lots of photos of different set-ups, floor plan designs and tablescapes.  Come prepared with questions.  For all our out-of-town couples have someone attend in your place and facetime the couple. It’s worth it- you will gain so much knowledge.

Here is a list of our 2025 OPEN HOUSE vendors.

Real Wedding- Amanda and Emmett

In a recent discussion with an Admiral Room http://www.admiralroom.com couple we asked them to share some of their love story.

wedding ceremony
bride groom kiss ceremony

Amanda and Emmett: We met through mutual friends in college. One of my roommates was dating one of his fraternity brothers. We met one night when my roommate’s boyfriend invited us to hangout at their fraternity and the rest is history!

He proposed right around our 6th anniversary.  I was surprised but we had always talked about getting married, I just didn’t know when or how he would actually propose.

We called all of our family and friends the night he proposed. When we got back to Buffalo, my grandparents were there and my parents had bought us some balloons. I moved out of Buffalo shortly after we got engaged, but we came back for Thanksgiving that year. My friends threw us a surprise engagement party at our annual Friendsgiving get together which was really sweet.

We chose the Admiral room for our wedding because it exudes elegance. It is so beautiful, and we were able to have both the ceremony and reception there. That was important to us. Because my family is so big, the guest list was naturally pretty large. The venue itself is beautiful, but it was all of the little things that made us fall in love with it. The staff was amazing and made us feel like we were taken care of the whole day. The food was delicious, and the chef was flexible with the meals. I loved that we were able to get ready and take all of our pictures at the venue. It lessened any stress of traveling or falling behind.

My father and I practiced for our father daughter dance for 6 months. We wanted to surprise everyone, so the only people who knew we were doing a choreographed dance were my mom and my sister. I mashed together and bunch of songs and we came up with a dance. It was so fun! When we danced in front of everyone it was so amazing and it went so well!

The most exciting part of the day was being able to see everyone we love the most all in the same room. My husband’s family lives all over and now that I’m not in Buffalo, we don’t get to see our family and friends as much as we used to. It was so fun to see all of our favorite people at once.

Real Wedding Johnson Januszkiewcz

Real Wedding 9/1/2024

A recent interview with Mary Margaret and John.

Where did you meet?  Of all places, we met at the World’s Largest Disco,   http://www.theworldlargestdisco.com in 2019 when we bumped into each other and our mutual friend introduced us! After spending the rest of the night dancing and chatting, we were pretty inseparable from then on — and we haven’t missed a Disco since!

John proposed to me on June 30, 2023 underneath the bridge at Delaware Park. My parents were in town from Texas and we were going to meet them and John’s parents at the Terrace for dinner but went to the park early to catch up with his sister beforehand, little did I know it was all a trick to get me there! We walked to the bridge and he got down on one knee under the bridge, unbeknownst to me, both of our parents were standing on top of the bridge and watched the whole thing and his sister was there in the bushes taking pictures of the proposal. One of the best days ever!
wedding ceremony and reception
Admiral Room weddings
The night of our engagement, John had told a few friends to meet us on the rooftop of the Curtiss Hotel for drinks after we finished up with dinner, so we celebrated with our closest friends the night of! Since we got engaged the weekend before the 4th of July, John’s whole family threw us a huge engagement party on July 3rd filled with some of our favorite things: family, cornhole, and sparklers at the end of the night!

wedding ceremony Admiral Room
For our ceremony at The Admiral Room, we really wanted it to be personal. We wrote all of our own vows to exchange to each other during the ceremony, and John’s cousin married us because she’s known us throughout our relationship so everything was special and nothing was typical. Since we met at the Disco and love music and dancing, we based a lot of our reception off of that — disco vibes! We told our band, Big City Horns, http://www.bigcityhorns.com to kick off the music with “Dancing Queen” to get the vibes going from the start, and we really danced the night away with our friends and family! We never left the dance floor!

From before we even got engaged, I knew there was really only one place I wanted to get married. Every inch of the Admiral Roomhttp://www.admiralroom.com is so stunning and I loved looking at the different pictures on Instagram http://www.instagram.com/admiral_roomto see how everyone makes the space so unique and their own, and I feel like we did that too with where we positioned the dance floor and our tables. Friends and family still talk about how gorgeous the venue was!
wedding reception
party reception wedding
We spent a lot of time picking out our first dance song; we wanted it to be special but also feel like us, so for the entire summer before our wedding, every time we’d  take our dog on a walk, we would listen to a few different songs that we were choosing between. We ultimately picked Precious Love by James Morrison because we loved that it was upbeat and we loved the lyrics. My first dance with my dad was Tiny Dancer by Elton John because it was always one of our favorite songs. John and his mom picked Somewhere Over The Rainbow because she used to sing that to him every night when she rocked him to sleep.
After we spent the whole morning apart while we were getting ready, I loved that we did a first look and took photos before the ceremony so we got to spend so much time together on our wedding day. Our ceremony was so beautiful and I loved every second of it, but easily the best part of our wedding day was the reception!! The Admiral Room made it so incredibly seamless and transformed the most beautiful room into the biggest and best party we’ve ever thrown!

We 1000% recommend using the Admiral Room as your wedding venue! Every single part of our favorite day was absolutely perfect and it’s all thanks to the tireless work of Cyndi, Kate and Josh!

Kid friendly weddings in Buffalo NY, ideas to keep kids busy

You can customize your wedding style at the Admiral Room and you can choose to have children attend your specical day.  Some couple’s welcome children, especially close family members while others prefer an adult only reception due to potential disruptions and considerations like venue decor items and budget.   Either way it is important to clearly communicate on the invitation if children are invited or not.   Many of our couples will have children attend that are family.  This allows close family members to celebrate together including children who are important to the couple, like meaningful “jobs” like a flower girl or ring of bearer rolls.   Consider hiring a sitter http://www.care.com at the event or possibly at a nearby hotel that will come and get the children and take them back to the hotel or nearby house.

Ultimately the couple should decide what feels right for their special day.

If you have a Kid-Friendly wedding here are some Ideas for Wedding Receptions at The Admiral Room http://www.admiralroom.com

Planning a wedding at The Admiral Room means curating an event that is as memorable as it is elegant. But when your guest list includes little ones, balancing sophistication with fun can feel like a challenge.

Here’s a listing of some delightful ideas to make your wedding reception enjoyable for all-  adults and children alike.

1. Creative Activity Stations Set up dedicated spaces with coloring books, puzzles, or craft supplies. (make sure you do not bring permanent marker or a tough to remove glue.   Tailor the themes to your wedding motif, like nautical-inspired art projects that nod to The Admiral Room’s classic elegance or the buildings’ nautical theme.  Kids love expressing themselves, and these activities can keep them engaged for hours.   Create a scavenger hunt for how many “boats” logos are in the ceiling, can they find the black sea-horses in the room?  How many pillars are in the room?  is there a fireplace?

2. Kid-Friendly Snacks & Treats Curate a special kid-friendly snack table complete with mini sandwiches and cookies. Adding a candy bar or a small dessert station with an assortment of toppings allows kids to get creative while satisfying their sweet tooth.

3. Interactive Entertainment Consider hiring child-friendly entertainers such as magicians, balloon artists. These performers can captivate the kids and ensure that parents can relax and enjoy the evening’s events. For an extra special touch, a storytime corner with a reader telling whimsical tales adds a layer of charm.

4. Movie Corner for Downtime Sometimes, kids need a quiet break from all the excitement. Set up a cozy nook with pillows, bean bags, and a screen showing family-friendly movies. This not only keeps the kids entertained but gives them a chance to wind down while the adults continue to celebrate.

6. Kid-Approved Favors When the night comes to a close, surprise young guests with favors they’ll cherish. Ideas include glow sticks or small plush toys. Thoughtful, age-appropriate gifts ensure that the children leave with smiles on their faces.

At The Admiral Room, we understand that including thoughtful touches for kids makes for a well-rounded and unforgettable wedding experience. With these ideas, your celebration can shine as brightly for the youngest guests as it does for the adults, creating cherished memories for all.

Let’s plan your big day and ensure every guest, no matter their age, has a magical time at The Admiral Room.

Tips for Planning Your Perfect Proposal

  • Consider Timing: Each location offers something different depending on the time of day. Sunrise and sunset can add a romantic touch, while evening proposals at Canalside or The Admiral Room can offer the magic of twinkling city lights.
  • Plan Ahead:Some locations, like Niagara Falls or the Buffalo Botanical Gardens, might be busier, so it’s worth considering weekday visits or off-peak times for a more private moment.
  • Capture the Moment:Hiring a photographer can help you remember this special day. Many photographers in Buffalo are familiar with these locations and can help you capture the best moments of your proposal.

Buffalo has an incredible range of places to get engaged, each with its own charm and romance. From grand cityscapes to quiet, scenic overlooks, there’s no shortage of beautiful backdrops for your special day. So, whether you choose to pop the question at one of these stunning spots or create your own dream proposal, Buffalo will be there to make your moment magical.

Color of the Year- incorporated into WNY weddings

Incorporating the Color of the Year into your wedding can create a modern, cohesive aesthetic.  Benjamin Moore embraced the beauty of quietly colorful hues with Cinnamon Slate, a purple-ish color.   Pantone color of the year,  2025, will be released soon.  2024 color was peach fuzz. Any color looks fabulous in the Admiral Room http://www.admiralroom.com

Here are some ideas on how to include it in various aspects in your wedding:

  1. Bridal Attire

– Bridal Gown Accents:  If the Color of the Year is bold, you could add subtle touches, like a colored sash, shoes, or embroidered details.

– Bridesmaid Dresses: Having your bridesmaids wear the Color of the Year is a popular way to integrate it.

– Accessories: Consider jewelry, shoes, or even your bouquet ribbon in the color.

  1. Floral Arrangements

– Work with your florist to select flowers in or close to the Color of the Year.

– Incorporate colored vases or table runners to complement the flowers if the color doesn’t naturally occur in blooms.

IMG_6631

  1. Stationery

– Use the Color of the Year in your invitations, RSVP cards, and even place cards.

– Incorporate it into your wedding website and save-the-dates as well.

Balancing traditions on your wedding day

Balancing tradition with personal style in a wedding can be a beautiful way to honor your roots while making the day uniquely yours. Never have we seen such a time we you can do just about anything.  Make it your love story!!

Here are a few ways to approach it:

1. Prioritize Meaningful Traditions Focus on traditions that resonate with you and your fiancé, whether they hold family significance or have a cultural or religious meaning.  Couples are finding creative ways to balance traditions and modernity in their ceremony and reception.

2. Blend Old and New Mix traditional elements with modern touches, like adding classic decor but with a contemporary twist.

3. Personalize Rituals If there are rituals or customs that don’t fully align with your vision, consider modifying them. 25 years ago everyone participated in the garter toss.  This is where the groom would remove the garter from the bride and tosses it into a crowd of single men.   We have not seen the toss but a few times at the Admiral Room. Instead, you could have a photo taken of the single guests and look back on this a few years later to see the differences.  Make it your own!

4.  Incorporate Personal Elements:

When you think of your wedding day, it is easy to focus heavily on the reception, but incorporating traditional elements can help anchor the day for its deeper meaning. A first look or first touch with a prayer or private vows, a unity event during your ceremony, a traditional blessing, or a private dinner can be beautiful ways to uphold the day’s significance while still leaving room for dancing and celebration.  We have seen a variety of wonderful ideas.  Let us know you are interested in any of these, and we will assist you in the planning.
