An Interview with Brittany Ford, a WNY top photographer

We are so lucky in WNY to have such a great group of wedding vendors.  We reached out to a top photographer to share a bit about herself.  From the moment our staff met her, we found her welcoming and fun.  For your wedding day you spend 6-10 hours together, you must vibe with that person.  We think you would have a blast with Brittany and her work is stunning.

Tell me about yourself
Hi! I’m Brittany, the owner and lead photographer behind Brittany Ford Photography. I’m based in Batavia, NY, but I travel often for weddings. I’ve been passionate about photography since middle school, and that love only deepened as I grew older and continued my education for it in college. I’m also the founder of Studio Lavonne & Community in Batavia, a creative space named in honor of my grandmother, where I host everything from branding sessions to workshops. I believe wedding photography is more than just beautiful images—it’s about preserving the moments that matter most.

How long have you been shooting weddings?
I photographed my first wedding in 2012 and have been full-time since 2020. Over the years, I’ve captured everything from intimate backyard ceremonies to full weekend wedding celebrations, and I still get excited every time I walk into a wedding day.

Describe your style
My style is vibrant, candid, and story-driven. I aim to capture the true essence of a wedding day from natural emotion, beautiful light to all the little in-between moments you didn’t even realize were happening. I lean toward bright and colorful edits with true-to-life tones, steering clear of the earthy/moody trend that’s common in the WNY area.

Will you take requests for special pictures to be taken?
Absolutely. I love working with my couples to make sure we capture what’s most meaningful to them. Whether it’s recreating a family heirloom photo, honoring a loved one, or making sure you get that perfect golden hour shot, I’m all about collaboration and intention behind all of my images.

Why should someone choose you? What do YOU bring to the table?
I bring over a decade of experience, a calm presence, and a deep love for what I do. My couples know I’ll help keep their day running smoothly, offer timeline support and be a friendly, familiar face on a day that can otherwise feel overwhelming. I’m organized, attentive, and genuinely invested in making sure my couples feel seen and celebrated throughout their entire wedding process.

Does your camera have dual memory card slots?
Yes, always. I shoot on professional cameras with dual memory card slots, which means each image is backed up in real-time. It’s one of many behind-the-scenes safeguards I take seriously to protect my couples memories.

How do you handle images once the wedding is over?
Immediately after the wedding, I back up the images to multiple locations: an external hard drive, a cloud storage system and I don’t format memory cards until final galleries are delivered.

When do you reformat/delete the images off the memory cards you use at weddings?
I wait until the gallery is edited, delivered, and backed up in several places before I even think about reformatting my cards.

You are getting married this year, who is shooting your wedding?
I am! We are planning a little untraditionally and having our wedding day in two days so one of my best friends in the local photography industry is capturing my ceremony and one of my old second photographers from years ago is capturing my reception. They both have a style that I love and they’re I trust to handle my memories with care, just like I do for my own clients.

What is the best thing you’ve seen done at a wedding reception? Are you using that at your wedding?
One of the most fun things I’ve seen was a late-night espresso martini bar, instant energy boost and such a vibe! I also love the videos I have seen online about a late night snack coming out onto the dancefloor. Who doesn’t love someone walking around handing you ice cream sandwiches, cannolis, hot dogs, or pizza?! Who also doesn’t love a high energy dance floor?! When the band/DJ gets involved on the dancefloor, everyone’s excitement is through the roof and definitely sets the tone for the rest of the evening AND is great for awesome photos!

Because my wedding is so laid-back like us as a couple, we are having an ice cream machine, a bonfire with hot dogs and beer pong! (my only requests 🙂 )

10 Commonly overlooked Wedding Day must haves in Buffalo NY

It’s always a great idea to have your fiancé, parents, and of course your wedding party on the same page with last-minute details. Here are some pointers that will make your day less stressful.

Preplanning you can avoid these common forgotten things and focus on enjoying your perfect wedding day.

  1. Wedding Day Emergence Kit

Include items such as safety pins, sewing kit ,stain remover, pain relievers, band-aids, double sided tape for quick fixes.  Some couples share these items with their guests and place a basket in the bathrooms or have a bridal suite kit.  Life savers are great ! And a stick of caulk- as it covers up make up stains

  1. Comfortable Wedding Shoes

While many brides envision wearing beautiful heels, your feet will start to ache and you may have some fun sneakers, or logoed shoes.   We have seen Zumba style shoes or white sneakers to enjoy dancing.  Many brides bring flip flops or ballet style slippers as a favor or gift to the ladies.

  1. Wedding Day Timeline

Staying organized is crucial for a seamless wedding day.  You want to make sure everyone is on the same page.  A great idea is texting a  detailed timeline to vendors, bridal party, and family in the morning, they can always refer back to their text.  You can also distribute paper copies, you minimize confusion and ensure events flow smoothly.

  1. Extra Phone Charger

Almost every wedding people have forgot their phone charger in the midst of a busy day.  Hopefully we can help you out on this but we cant guarantee, so it’s a great idea if you want to stay connected to your bridal party or vendors.

  1. Prepare for Weather

Luckly the Admiral Room is an indoor event space, but you don’t want to mess up your fresh hair with rain or snow.  Prepare by putting an umbrella, shawl or sunscreen in your bag.

  1. Touch up kit

Included lipstick, powder, tissues, blotting paper, a small mirror to freshen up.

  1. Wedding folder- have a copy of all your notes- including copies on timeline, vendor contract, guest list, table designs and assigned tables. This is not for you!! Give this to a family member of a bridesmaid to refer to if need be.
  2. Marriage License Make sure its signed, sealed and ready to go.  Assign someone to bring it to the ceremony.
  3. Cash or tips for vendors- To stay organized have small envelopes ready for gratuities or any unexpected expenses.

10 Personalized Vows   – Have a copy of your personalized vows tucked in your dress or suit.  Personalized vows allow you to share your emotions, memories and hopes in your own words.
