Surviving (and Thriving) at Your Office Holiday Party
It’s the annual office holiday party, here at http://www.admiralroom.com. That magical time of year when professional attire gives way to sparkles, sequins, and questionable dance moves. Your coworkers transform from email signatures into actual people with personalities, and the conference room suddenly smells like catered appetizers instead of coffee.

We get it — hanging out with coworkers outside the office might not sound like your dream Friday night. But trust us, it’s worth it. Office holiday parties are a rare mix of free food, free drinks, and free entertainment (thanks to your coworkers after two cocktails). So let’s make sure you survive the night with your dignity — and your job — fully intact.
Here are a few tips to help you crush the company holiday party with no regrets:
1. Rule number one: Just. Show. Up.
Even if you’re tempted to stay home in your sweats watching Netflix, go. You don’t want to be the person who misses the story everyone talks about for the next six months. Unless you have a serious excuse (illness, family emergency, alien abduction — you know, the usual), make an appearance. A quick hour goes a long way.
2. Don’t overdo it at the open bar 🍸
Yes, the drinks are free. No, that doesn’t mean you need to sample every signature cocktail. The physical hangover hurts — but the moral hangover? Way worse. No one wants to be “that person” who closed out the night singing Mariah Carey on the dessert table. Hydrate, pace yourself, and thank yourself later.
3. Eat something beforehand.
Pro tip: champagne and tiny meatballs do not count as dinner. Grab a solid meal before the party so you don’t end up double-fisting shrimp skewers while trying to remember your boss’s spouse’s name. A good base = good decisions.
4. Join the fun (seriously).
There’s always one person who refuses to play games or dance. Don’t be that person. Whether it’s trivia, karaoke, or a dance-off, jump in! The team that embarrasses themselves together, bonds together.
5. Dress the part
Don’t be the person who shows up to a formal dinner in jeans… or a casual happy hour in a ball gown. If you’re not sure what to wear, ask. The goal: festive, not confusing.
6. Plus-ones: Proceed with caution.
Before you RSVP with your plus-one, make sure it’s actually allowed. And if it is — choose wisely. This is not the place to introduce your chaotic friend or that brand-new Hinge match. Bring someone who can mingle, smile, and not accidentally start a debate about company policy.
7. Keep the convo cheerful.
Save the politics, office gossip, and “work complaints disguised as jokes” for another day. Stick to fun topics — travel, food, holiday plans. And branch out! It’s a great chance to chat with people you don’t usually work with.
8. Be present — not just physically.
Put your phone away. Don’t hover in the corner pretending to text your “friend who’s on their way.” Engage, laugh, and enjoy it. But if you hit your social limit — no shame in saying your goodbyes and heading out gracefully.
Final Toast
The office holiday party is your chance to relax, connect, and celebrate a year’s worth of hard work. You don’t need to be on your best behavior — but maybe not your worst either. So show up, have fun, and make memories that are worth talking about Monday morning (for the right reasons).
Happy partying — and may your only regret be the next-day group photo.
